44th ISTS Symposium

44TH ISTS, KONA, HAWAII

The 44th International Sea Turtle Society Symposium  is being held in Kona, Hawaii from March 2 to March 9, 2026.  This symposium bring nearly 700 sea turtle scientists, volunteers, NGOs, and other groups and people interested in sea turtle ecology, biology and conservation.  Laura Jim and Robyn Scarth promoted a Honu Hui program that would allow students from local high schools and middle schools to attend the opening ceremonies, some of the talks and the poster session.  It is a wonderful opportunity for young people to experience a professional symposium and mingle with professional researchers and other students.

Laura Jim and Rosanne Shank are authors of a poster at the symposium about the work done at Kaloko-Honokohau Harbor assessing the use of the harbor by honu and honu ‘ea.

During lunch time all of the student guests assembled for lunch provided by HPA.  At the end of the lunch, three college students/ grad students came in to tell their stories about their college experiences.
