HPA STRP GOES TO GHANA

Nov. 8,2026

The first night has passed and the team got some much needed sleep.  They have been busy though.   They have participated in turtle nest excavation, released a trapped hatchling, started a nest temperature study, did a little boogy-boarding, participated in a Batik making workshop and generally got acclimated to the Escape 3 Points environment. Tonight they will do some serious monitoring for nesting Olive Ridley turtles.

Some more pictures of their activities are shown below.

Laura Jim, Robyn Scarth and 2 HPA STRP students are in Ghana to work with the University of Ghana and Cape 3 Points Eco Lodge to capture and satellite tag Olive Ridley turtles that are nesting in the Cape 3 Points area or in Prampram..west coast of Ghana.  This is the second trip and last year Laura and Robyn  were able to satellite tag 2 Olive Ridley turtles.  See 2025 Blog on the last trip.

The team traveled from Kona, Hawaii to Seattle to New York to Frankfurt and landed safely in Acccra, Ghana.   The next day they took a flight to Takarodi and a driver picked them up and drove them to Cape 3 Point.  Quite a trip!!!

They are currently at “Escape 3 Point” lodge settling in and preparing for the night time monitoring they will need to do to find nesting Olive Ridley Turtles.

A few Pictures of their trip to date are below.
