22 Puako Beach Road HONU HEALTH ASSESSMENT (4/8/25)
Laura Jim, Robin Scarth. Marc Rice and 7 HPA students traveled to 22 Puako Beach Road to conduct a honu health assessment/tagging. We arrived at the site at 0830 and set up our equipment before beginning capture work at 0900 h. We were able, during the course of the day, to capture, tag and conduct health assessment on 11 honu. 2 of the 11 captures presented a somewhat emaciated status while the others seemed robust and healthy.
Of the 11 honu captured, 7 were recaptures and 4 were new captures. The calculated yearly growth rate for the 7 recaptures is shown in the table below:
