Tagging Trip- 92 Puako Beach Road
On Monday, 4/17/2023, Laura Jim, Marc Rice and 10 HPA Sea Turtle Research Program volunteers traveled to Puako to capture, measure, weigh and tag green turtles (honu). We were joined by George Balazs who traveled over from Honolulu. We arrived at the tagging site at 0830, set up our equipment and were at work on honu by 0930 h. The tide was very low in the morning but came up consistently during the day and capture work became easier later on in the day. The team worked hard in the morning and finished 5 honu before lunch and then did another 7 in the afternoon for a total of 12 for the day. Of the 12 honu, 3 were recaptures and 9 were new captures.
All of the honu captured were healthy and seemingly well fed.
