Mauna Lani honu health assessment
Laura Jim, Marc Rice and 10 HPA STRP students traveled to Mauna Lani Bay to conduct a health assessment/tagging field day on Friday, September 6, 2024. We were joined by Mauna Lani’s Malama Na Honu staff (Pi’i, Ethan and Kahoku), George Balazs and Rosanne Shank and Kiyo Kobiashi (Port of Nagoya Public Aquarium, Japan). We were able to capture, tag and conduct health assessment on 12 honu (green turtle) during our period of work from 0830 to 1430 hours.
Total honu captured = 12 Recaptures = 7 New Captures = 5
We captured a juvenile hawksbill turtle which is very rare.
