Marine biology 2 - Vertebrate Zoology and Human Impacts to our Oceans

This second semester of Marine Biology will focus on vertebrate zoology and human impacts to our oceans. This course covers the taxonomy, phylogeny and diversity of marine fishes, reptiles, birds and mammals. Much focus will be on organisms of Hawaii with our main field experiences occurring during the latter part of the semester in which we investigate the various fish families of Hawaii. In addition to vertebrate zoology students will investigate anthropogenic impacts on the marine environment. The course is open to sophomores through seniors. All students must be prepared to participate in all field trips as they are critical learning experiences embedded in the curriculum. As many of the field trips involve snorkeling it is expected that students are strong swimmers and comfortable in the ocean.
